Urban Language and Literacy Practices

Investigating urban language and literacy practices to construct Bogotá as a multicultural place. 2019 - 2022.

Center for Research and Scientific Development. Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas.

Project #: 4-62-587-19

This fascinating collaborative ethnography was developed in collaboration with undergraduate students, graduate students and two research assistants from the undergraduate language program at UDFJC. The university-based researchers were Judy Sharkey from the University of New Hampshire, Theresa Austin, and Rosa Alejandra Medina from University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Amparo Clavijo-Olarte as principal investigator. The participants in the study were local teachers from two public schools, graffiti artists, business owners, and university students in La Candelaria and Santafé, two districts in the historic center of Bogotá.
